Firstly there’s me. 40+ wife and mother. Used to have ambitions to be a great musician but alas – not to be … Life got in the way. Now I just do a bit of teaching, occasionally play a little and spend the rest of my time being mum. I’m a hopeless housewife … I have however recently retrained in a journalism/communications kind of field and hope to start working very soon.
Then there’s SlowCoach: Dear, devoted husband of nearly 16 years now. Named SlowCoach because he is so darn good at procrastination …
Dory: First born son. Officially a full-on teenager and has been growing at a rapid rate for the past four years. He now towers over both SlowCoach and I. He’s mathematically brilliant, plays the flute and the bassoon and loves his sports.
Picky: Middle child and everything that goes with that. Starting high school in 2009. He’s a fuss-pot about everything. Doesn’t like food. Doesn’t like being told what to do. Doesn’t like anything that doesn’t go his away. Not as laid back and easy going as his siblings … But loving and adorable when he wants to be. Thoughtful and empathetic when he wants to be. Demonic when he wants to be…
Sparkle: My baby! Reaches double figures in 2009. Very cheery and easy going. Loves music. Loves sport. Loves maths. Loves everything really. Can throw one hell of a tantrum if he thinks someone noticed his halo slipped a little ….
Coco: Our newest addition – a beautiful chocolate brown burmese kitten. He’s nearly three years old. He’s become neurotic … Pulling his fur out every time he gets stressed. Pass the valium…
The August Mums: I have known the august mums since I was 16 weeks pregnant with Picky. We were all due in august 1996 – some with our first baby, some with our last. Since then we have shared the ups and downs of being a mother. We’ve had more babies, divorces, marriages, deaths and births. They’re a wonderful, wonderful group of women who I am proud to call friends. I have met only two of them – but I hope to meet the other 40 or so at some point in time!
