Family Fun night

About six weeks ago I introduced “Family Fun Night” at our house. On Thursdays. I think it’s a great idea :-) I’ve had mixed reactions from the rest of the family … Sparkle and Picky think it’s brilliant. Dory is a typical teenager and thinks everything is stupid. SlowCoach doesn’t get excited about anything at all. Except cars ….

But we’re having fun night regardless of the party poopers. ON Thursdays television is now banned (until the boys go to bed anyway…) and instead we spend the evening together. Talking. Playing games. Communicating without the distraction of a square box. So far we have: played trivial pursuit, played charades, played pictionary, played cards, and played hide-and-seek (in the dark with torches).

I try and organise some kind of exciting snack to have for supper. A couple of times I cooked but mostly I forgot and had to rush out to buy corn chips …. This week I’ll remember to cook again!

Anyhow, my two younger boys LOVE Thursday nights and I wish I’d started doing this years ago. Another couple of years and I’ll have more than one teenager in the house and I really can’t see me forcing two enormously tall, sulky teenagers to play hide-and-seek …. So we need to make the most of this time while we can! Anything we do together that doesn’t involve electricity is great in my opinion! I just wish I could get SlowCoach to show enthusiasm for the idea. He joins in but he’s not a willing spirit …
